What to do
Four seasons on holiday: nature on hand, and emotions in form of snow and ice.
The valley of Cogne with its natural beauties is the ideal destination for the seekers of real nature. The resort offers many alpine climbs, nature hikes, horseback and mountain bike rides. For winter sports, it has a cableway, chairlifts and ski lifts for alpine skiing, telemark and snowboard, a snowpark for children, and a total of 50 miles (80 km.) of cross-country tracks. Cogne deserves its renown for history and culture. The local craftsmanship, the permanent lace-making exhibitions, the museums, the mining sites, the mountain pastures are worth a visit; the ancient traditions, and the way of life of this dynamic mountain culture will surprise you in every corner of its villages.
Lillaz is an ideal place for a quiet and relaxing holiday, or for the more sporty ones. The wide choice of well-marked footpaths, both in or out of the Gran Paradiso National Park borders, allow to alternate easy walks through woods and meadows to hikes and mountain climbs. The famous waterfalls of the same name, formed by three successive falls of the Urtier stream, have been recently classified as a natural monument, are easily accessible in a few minutes' walk, and offer a charming show in every season.
For the lovers of winter sports Lillaz offers many attractions. Ice-climbing fans can tackle the most renowned cascades in the area: from the Lillaz ones to the more demanding ones in the Valeille, in one of the most appreciated environments in the ice world. For the cross-country skiing lovers, the choice of tracks allows beginners, experts, children and adults to practice that healthy sport. Lillaz is also a good starting point for ski-mountaineering excursions. The less sporty can enjoy the wonderful view of Mont Blanc on the distance, or walk along the pedestrian paths with or without snow shoes. The suggestive path going through the ancient rock and landslide should not be missed.
